This program is
intended to bridge the gap between junior sailing (sabots) and the
high school, college and Olympic levels. It aims to promote competition
at the local, national, and international level, and to promote
sailing as a fun and enjoyable sport for teenagers!
The focus for all sailors will be to
improve boat and sail handling, crew work, tactics, tuning, racing
rules and physical conditioning.

Eligibility |
|
The program is open to
youth age 14-18, or students entering high school with a basic
background in sailing. Some exceptions may be made to more experienced younger sailors. |

Training Program |
|
The program includes six weeks of instruction in several types of
boats. Instruction will run four days per week, Tuesday through
Friday.
Class will begin each day at 1:00 pm and end at 5:00pm.
Each day both on and off the water instruction will be given. Video
will be used to supplement training and learning. Emphasis will be
given to improving boat handling, tactics, and tuning. Conditioning,
both physical and mental, will also be a part of the program. Boat
preparation and maintenance, seamanship, racing rules and
environmental issues will be covered.

Boats |

The program will be taught
in Lasers, Laser Radials, CFJ’s, and 420’s. The following boats will
be available at the center: 18 CFJ’s, 3 CC 420’s, 2 Lasers.
Personal boats may be used for the program and storage is included in
the tuition cost if desired. |

Laser/Laser Radial program: This program is for sailors
who want to improve single-handed sailing. Focus will be on boat and
sail handling, sail trim, tactics, racing rules and physical
conditioning.
Dinghy Program: This program is for sailors who want to
improve their double-handed skills. We will use two different types
of boats - CFJ’s and CC 420’s. Some of the CC 420’s and CFJ’s are
rigged with spinnaker. Focus will be on boat and sail handling,
crew work, tactics, tuning, racing rules and physical conditioning.

The summer is the peak sailing season and many regatta opportunities

Program
Requirements |
|
|
Swim Test: Each student must pass a basic swim test, given on the
first day of class. The test includes: Swim 50 yard, Tread
water for 5 minutes, Put on a lifejacket while in the water
Lifejacket: Each student must
provide and wear a USCG
approved Personal Flotation Device while on the docks or on the water.
